In previous versions of the Trusona App, we did not allow users to restore their one-time passcodes (OTP) when registering their email address on a new device or after wiping their phone. Not allowing users to restore their OTPs caused them to be unable to log into websites or their Windows 10 workstation with Trusona when their phone and/or workstation was offline and an OTP was configured with the Trusona Authenticator App.
Starting in version 4.8.0 (Android) and 4.4.6 (iOS), we added in the ability to backup and restore your Windows 10 and third-party OTP codes to iCloud or Google Drive.
Trusona does not store the seed for your OTP accounts. Instead, the codes are encrypted and then the codes are stored in your iCloud Drive or Google Drive.
Steps to restore your Windows 10 and third-party OTP accounts:
iOS
- Ensure you are signed into your iCloud account using the account used for the backup.
- Download the Trusona Authenticator App
- Register your email address in the Trusona Authenticator App. Ensure you register the same email address previously used.
Android
- Ensure you are signed into your Google account using the account used for the backup.
- Download the Trusona Authenticator App
- Register your email address in the Trusona Authenticator App. Ensure you register the same email address previously used.
Scenarios when you will not be able to restore your Windows 10 and third-party OTP accounts
- On iOS devices, you must enable iCloud Keychain. Otherwise, your third-party OTP accounts will not be able to be backed up to iCloud. To enable this on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, follow the steps below: Go to Settings, select your name, and choose iCloud.
- Select ‘Keychain’
- Enable ‘iCloud Keychain’.
- If you deleted your account from the Trusona app using the method described in the ‘How to delete your Trusona account’ article, you will no longer be able to restore your third-party OTP accounts because all information associated with your account was deleted from our system.
